O'Byrne Earns Two-Year Deal with Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team
has signed former Cornell defenseman Ryan
O’Byrne to a two-year contract through the 2012-13
season.
O’Byrne, 26, appeared in 64 games with Colorado after being
acquired from Montreal on Nov. 11. The Victoria, B.C., native
tallied a career-high 10 points (0g/10a) while finishing second on
the Avalanche in average time-on-ice at 20:24. He led
Colorado in hits (168), finished second on the club in blocked
shots (126) and was third in penalty minutes (71). The
6-foot-5, 234-pound defenseman also skated in three games for the
Canadiens, tallying no points and four penalty minutes.
“Ryan brings size to our defense,” said Avalanche
General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman.
“We are pleased to have him under contract for the next two
years and look forward to him continuing his career with our
organization.”
Selected by Montreal in the third round (79th overall) of the 2003
Entry Draft, O’Byrne has appeared in 192 career NHL games,
collecting 26 points (2g/24a) and 252 penalty minutes.
