ITHACA -- Given the way the 13th-ranked Cornell men's hockey team was playing defense in November and early December, a three-week break was probably the last thing it wanted.
But some time away from the rink might be the thing to reawaken the team's dormant offense, which scored three goals in its final four pre-Christmas games.
"It's pretty close to starting all over," said Cornell coach Mike Schafer on Dec. 15, a day before sending his players home for the holidays. "But the thing is, you pick things back up real quick, you'll get back into that mode really fast."
