Freezers Add Cook
The Hamburg Freezers (Germany) announced today the signing of former Cornell standout Charlie Cook for the 2011-12 season.
A native of Port Huron, Michigan, Cook joins the Freezers having concluded the 2010-11 campaign with the SCL Tigers of Langnau, Switzerland. Cook joined the Tigers less than one month after competing with Davos (Switzerland) of the National League A. He began the 2010-11 season with MODO Hockey of the Elitserien (Swedish Elite League). In 31 contests in 2010-11, he scored two goals and added six assists.
"Charlie is the appropriate gain for our defense", said Hamburg sports director Stephane Richer. "He is very mobile, has a good positional play and makes very safe passes. Especially on the power play Charlie will get a lot of ice. With his hard shot, we have many power-play opportunities. "
Prior to 2010-11, Cook spent two campaigns in the Finnish SM-Liiga with Lukko Rauma. In 105 contests, he scored 17 goals and set up 28 tallies.
A 2004-05 ECAC Hockey second-team all-league and NCAA Second-Team All-America selection, Cook played in 19 games with Tappara Tampere (Finland) at the start of 2008-09 before joining Lukko Rauma. He compiled four goals and three assists with Tappara Tampere.
"I am delighted to join Hamburg,” said Cook. “Even after my first Cup Germany was clear to me wanting to play in this country. With Brett Engelhardt and John Curry, I was already on the ice together. That's why I'm also sure that we have a strong team together and achieve our goals."
Cook, the 2005 ECAC Hockey Championship Most Outstanding Player, was a four-year letterwinner with the Big Red. In 129 career contests, Cook registered 70 points, including 16 goals. He scored a career-best nine goals and 13 assists in 35 games as a senior (2004-05).
