Vote for Your Favorite Cornell Players of All Time
ITHACA, N.Y. -- As part of ECAC Hockey's celebration of the 50th
year of the league in 2010-11, Cornell Hockey is paying tribute to
both the first NCAA Championship team from 1967 and the favorite
players of the fans by wearing throwback sweaters modeled after the
uniforms worn by the 1967 squad. The throwback sweaters will be
worn during the Feb. 18 game against Harvard at Lynah Rink, with
the nameplates bearing the names of the favorite players to have
worn each number adorning those sweaters.
Following the game against Harvard, the sweaters will be auctioned
off, with the proceeds going toward a service project in the
Dominican Republic. The project, the second phase of a project
began two years ago, will include the construction of a
multi-purpose building to be used for adult and child instruction,
community gatherings, church services and as a hurricane
refuge.
Fans can vote now through Friday, February 4, 2011, at 5 p.m.
Eastern Time, at http://cornellbigred.com/sb_output.aspx?form=24.
Fans can vote for one player per number, with each number having
between three and six options. Despite the numbers 1, 5, 14, 25 and
28 not being worn by a current member of the Big Red, those
sweaters will also be available for voting and for auction. Numbers
33 and 35, which have only been worn by the current players wearing
them (Andy
Iles and Mike Garman, respectively) are not
available for voting but will be included in the auction.
