Garman's Burning Desire is to be No. 1 Goaltender

Just as when quarterback Matt Cassel embarked on a career after his time at Southern California, soon-to-be former Cornell goalie Mike Garman hopes to prove he can be as a professional what he never had the opportunity to be in college-- a starter.
Garman, who confirmed this week his decision to pursue early graduation instead of returning to the Big Red in 2011-12 for what could have been his fourth season, said there were a lot of factors in the move. While not the primary motive, he said that the fact he was splitting time in goal with Andy Iles was part of the decision.
Cassel, now the Kansas City Chiefs' starting quarterback, sat behind Heisman Trophy winners Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC. Garman spent his first two years at Cornell backing up Ben Scrivens, then split last year with Iles. Both Iles and Garman started 17 games.
