Even though Hockey Hall of Fame goalie Ken Dryden has won six Stanley Cups, five Vezina trophies and a Conn Smythe Trophy, he still has one secret hockey fantasy and he will fulfill it this weekend.
Since 1980, Stanley Cup winners have been permitted to have the Cup for a day, too late for Dryden. It has taken three years, but the Hockey Hall of Fame has agreed to give Dryden his own “Cup Day” this weekend, one he can share with his father and the Humber Valley Hockey Association of the Greater Toronto Hockey League.
“On Friday night, I am taking it to Domain, Man., where my father was born and grew up,” he said of the village — population 50 — that he says would probably never see it otherwise.
