Greening Adds Champion to Pro Résumé
HOUSTON, Tex. - Colin Greening, a former Cornell standout,
concluded a season that encompassed participation in 106 games by
being crowned champion in his first professional campaign as the
Binghamton Senators captured the 2011 Calder Cup championship with
a 3-2 win Tuesday over the Houston Aeros at the Toyota
Center.
The Senators, who joined the AHL in 2002-03 as the top development
team of the National Hockey League’s Ottawa Senators, had
missed the playoffs for five consecutive seasons entering the
2010-11 campaign but finished it by earning the city of
Binghamton’s first championship in 29 years of hosting an
American Hockey League franchise. Binghamton defeated Houston four
games to two.
A native of St. John's, Newfoundland, Greening appeared in 82 games -- 59 regular-season and 23 playoff games -- with Binghamton. He posted 40 points, including 15 goals, in regular-season action, and five points, including one goal, in Calder Cup play. The regular-season points total ranked second among Binghamton rookies.
Greening made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut with the Ottawa Senators February 1 against the New Jersey Devils, and recorded his first career NHL goal in a March 3 road contest against the Atlanta Thrashers. A seventh-round pick (204th overall) by the Senators in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Greening recorded six goals and 13 points in 24 NHL regular-season contests.
