Barlow Joins Jackals
The Elmira Jackals announced on Wednesday that they have signed former Cornell forward Evan Barlow to a standard player contract for the 2011-12 season.
Barlow enters his third professional season having established himself as a premiere scoring threat. After starting 2010-2011 with stints in Finland and Norway, the 5'9", 185-pound left wing returned for a second season with the Idaho Steelheads, earning the ECHL's Player of the Month title in January in his first month back with the club. He finished the season with 18 goals and 36 assists for 54 points with the Steelheads and added two goals and five assists for seven points in nine playoff games.
The Strathmore, Alberta product started his professional career in 2009-2010 in style, posting 32 goals and 43 assists for 75 points (second most among ECHL rookies) with the Steelheads while garnering ECHL All-Star Game MVP honors and earning a spot on the ECHL All-Rookie Team. Barlow's +30 rating was tied for fourth highest in the ECHL. In 15 postseason games, Barlow tied for the team lead with eight goals and 18 points as Idaho advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals. He also secured eight games with the AHL's Abbotsford Heat, totaling four points (1g-3a).
Barlow played his college hockey from 2005-2009 at nearby Cornell, accumulating 28 goals and 33 assists for 61 points in his four years with the Big Red.
"Evan is a threat to score every time he is on the ice," Jackals head coach Pat Bingham said. "He plays with an edge, making him a tough player to compete against."
