Why was I talking to Ryan O’Byrne on the phone yesterday? What else am I supposed to do with myself? There are still FOUR AND A HALF MONTHS LEFT BEFORE TRAINING CAMP. Seriously, I want a winning team again. I know I’m not supposed to root for anything as a pro sports writer, but I want a winning team again. This used to be the time of year when I was just getting started on the real workload of the hockey season. Six of the first seven years the Avs were in town, lest we’ve all forgotten, the team was in the Western Conference finals. There was a game every other night, a new special section to write for in advance, about the next Avs opponent, waving white pom-pons, interview requests from radio stations in Saskatoon.
