Greening Makes NHL Debut

NEWARK, N.J. -- Former Cornell standout Colin Greening made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut Tuesday for the Ottawa Senators in the team's 2-1 loss at New Jersey.

Donning jersey No. 52, Greening earned eight minutes, five seconds of ice time.

"It felt great," Greening said. "Obviously, was a little bit nervous to begin with but once you get out there, I think I was able to throw a hit in the first shift so, that kind of helped a little bit."

Greening said he was delighted to have his parents in the audience for his first NHL game.

"It means everything to me," he said.

"When I was five, they were the first ones that kind of ingrained it in my mind that if I worked hard, some day I could make it to the NHL, and now for them to be here is great for them because it shows the amount of sacrifice they put in for me as well."

Greening signed with Ottawa following his college career and has played for the Senators' top Minor League affiliate in Binghamton, New York. In 48 games with Binghamton, he recorded 12 goals and 20 assists, and 34 minutes in penalties.

In four seasons (2006-10) with Cornell, Greening appeared in 137 games, scoring 55 goals and adding 63 assists. He scored 15 goals and added 20 assists in 34 games during his senior campaign, helping Cornell claim to the 2010 ECAC Hockey Championship.
