Devin, Kennedy to Don "C" for Cornell
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Seniors Patrick Kennedy and Joe Devin have been
voted by their teammates as co-captains for the 2010-11 Cornell
men's hockey team, head coach Mike Schafer announced on Tuesday.
The pair will share official on-ice leadership duties during the
season, with no alternate captains selected.
Devin and Kennedy are the team's top two returning scorers from a
year ago, with Devin recording 22 points on nine goals and 13
assists and Kennedy notching seven goals and 14 assists for 21
points. Kennedy is also first in career scoring among all returning
players with 40 points, while Devin is third on the current roster
with 37 points, trailing his twin brother, Mike, by one in that
category.
Kennedy follows in the steps set by his older brother, Michael,
who served as co-captain of the 2008-09 Big Red squad that featured
Patrick as a sophomore. Michael Kennedy shared the captain's "C"
with then-junior Colin Greening, who served as captain last season
for the Big Red.
The Big Red, ranked 10th in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine
preseason college hockey poll, opens the 2010-11 season on Oct. 16
with the annual Red-White Scrimmage at Lynah Rink. The first
exhibition of the year takes place on Oct. 21 when Cornell plays
host to the University of Quebec Trois-Rivieres, and the regular
season kicks off on Oct. 29 against New Hampshire at Lynah
Rink.
