ITHACA -- To see the dichotomy of Ben Scrivens progression, flash back to the first goal the Cornell goalie allowed this season.

Scrivens tried to clear the puck, but it was intercepted by a Niagara player at the blue line. Scrivens scrambled back to the crease and gloved the weak shot. But then he appeared to get bumped into after he caught it, and the puck trickled out of his catching glove and across the goal line.

"He has to be stronger," coach Mike Schafer said after the game on Oct. 30, a 3-2 overtime win against Niagara. "He's got to get away from doing stupid stuff. You know, trying to clear it. I spoke with him between periods and it's ridiculous that he'd even attempt it. Those are some things we need to talk about. He needs to stay in goal and play goal."
