O'Byrne Shines for Avs

It might be unfair to call the Avalanche's acquisition of Ryan O'Byrne from the Montreal Canadiens in November a steal, considering the player given up, center Michael Bournival, is a pretty good prospect for the future.

But until Bournival proves himself, it's safe to say the trade has given the Avs a pretty fair return. That's because O'Byrne has been nothing short of outstanding in his 18 games for Colorado, which plays the Canadiens at the Pepsi Center tonight in hopes of extending its current five-game winning streak.

O'Byrne has been a shiny plus-13. He's averaging 19 minutes, 53 seconds per game. His 54 hits are second on the team, despite having played 14 fewer games than some teammates, and his 47 blocked shots
