Scrivens Finalist for Hobey Baker Award
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell senior goaltender Ben Scrivens has been
named as one of the 10 finalists for the 2010 Hobey Baker Award,
presented annually to the top player in men's Division I hockey.
Scrivens is the fifth Cornell player in history to be selected as a
finalist for the award.
Entering this weekend's ECAC Hockey championships, Scrivens ranks
second in the country in both save percentage (.933) and
goals-against average (1.89). He is among Cornell's all-time
leaders in every statistical category, including holding the school
record for career saves (2,787). Scrivens ranks third all-time in
career wins (63) and is second in career shutouts (17). He also
ranks fourth in NCAA history with his 17 shutouts, also ranking in
the top-10 all-time in NCAA history in both goals-against average
and save percentage.
Scrivens is the fifth Cornell player to ever be selected as a
finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. He joins Joe Nieuwendyk (1987),
Douglas Murray (2002), David LeNeveu (2003) and David McKee in
being selected as one of the top 10 finalists. Both LeNeveu and
McKee were also selected to the Hat Trick as the top three
vote-getters in the balloting.
Scrivens and his Big Red teammates will try to claim the program's
first ECAC Hockey championship since 2005 when it competes at the
league championship weekend in Albany, N.Y., on Friday and
Saturday. The Big Red will take on Brown in a 4 p.m. contest in the
semifinals on Friday, with Union and St. Lawrence battling in the
other semifinal at 7 p.m. on Friday. The two semifinal losers will
meet in the consolation game at 4 p.m. on Saturday, with the
winners meeting at 7 p.m.
