Scrivens Bound for Reading
READING, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National HockeyLeague and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, announced that former Cornell goaltender Ben Scrivens has been assigned by the Maple Leafs from the Marlies to the Royals.
Last season, Scrivens (6'2/197) (24), who hails from Spruce Grove, Alberta, compiled a 21-9-4 record with a 1.87 goals against average and the nation's best save percentage (.934) in thirty-four games for the Cornell Big Red, who captured the ECAC Hockey tournament championship for the twelfth time in school history. In the ECAC Hockey tournament, Scrivens, who was selected as a Reebok Hockey Division I First Team All American, established a conference record by allowing just one goal in four games. In fact, Scrivens, who recorded nineteen shutouts in his four year career at Cornell, posted the third longest shutout streak in NCAA history during his senior season, going 267:11 at one stage without allowing a goal. Scrivens, who received ECAC Hockey's Ken Dryden Award as the Goaltender of the Year last season, completed his career at Cornell as the all-time leader in saves (2,873) and shutouts (19).
