Cornell Can't Afford to Slip on Home Ice

ITHACA -- If there was such a thing as must-win regular season
games for a first-place team, this weekend would be it. Even a
split for No. 8 Cornell could prove costly.
As it stands right now, ECAC Hockey may get only the winner of its
league into the NCAA Tournament. So with sixth-ranked Yale, one of
the two teams tied with Cornell for first place visiting Lynah Rink
Saturday night, this weekend's home games with the Bulldogs and
Brown have enormous implications.
A Yale win Saturday also would clinch the largely ceremonious Ivy
League title for the Bulldogs, on the Big Red's home ice
nonetheless. It also would throw another psychological barrier in
the way of the Big Red. Cornell has not beaten Yale its last five
tries (0-4-1), including a 5-0 loss last March in the ECAC Hockey
title game.
