Q&A with Douglas Murray
The following article featuring former Cornell standout Douglas Murray appeared December 7 on the Vancouver Sun Web site.
By Ian Walker
WALKER: What's the real story with your name?
MURRAY: My relatives came over from Scotland in 1730 so our
family name Murray has been in Sweden for over 300 years. All my
cousins have Swedish names, but my parents wanted to do something
different and named us Ted, Douglas and Roseanna. Not very Swedish.
It was great growing up, but now no one believes I'm from
Sweden.
WALKER: Is it Doug or Douglas?
MURRAY: I don't really care. My mom prefers Douglas. She has a
heavy accent so she thinks Doug sounds like Dog.
WALKER: How did you get the nickname 'Crankshaft'?
MURRAY: Long secret story. A fun trip with some guys on the
team about four years ago and I guess I keep on going pretty
strong. That's all I'll say about that.
