Nash, Scrivens Highlight Big Red's All-League Selections
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell senior defenseman Brendon Nash and
goaltender Ben Scrivens were both named First-Team All-ECAC Hockey
in voting conducted by the league's coaches, announced this
afternoon by the league office. It marks the first first-team honor
for both players, who also become the first two players selected to
the first team since 2005. The pair leads five Cornell players in
earning all-league recognition.
Nash and Scrivens become the first pair of Cornell players to make
the first team in ECAC Hockey since David McKee and Matt Moulson
were named to the first team in 2005. Both players earned
second-team all-league honors last season.
Joining the pair in garnering all-league accolades are senior
forward Colin Greening, who earned a spot on the second team, and
junior forward Riley Nash, who took third-team honors. Also being
recognized was freshman defenseman Nick D'Agostino, who earned a
spot on the all-newcomer team.
Voting was conducted by the league's 12 coaches and included only
ECAC Hockey games. Brendon Nash finished tied for second in scoring
among the league's defensemen, playing in 21 games in league play.
He scored a pair of goals and added in 14 assists, with the latter
total placing him in a tie for 16th among all skaters. Nash also
ranked fourth in the league in power play points, with 13 of his 16
points coming with the man advantage.
Scrivens, meanwhile, was head-and-shoulders above the other
goaltenders in the league, easily outdistancing the other
netminders in both save percentage and goals-against average. He
posted a .933 save percentage, well above second-place Allen York's
.919 save percentage, and had a 1.89 goals-against average, the
only league netminder under 2.25. He also posted a .705 winning
percentage, again the highest among ECAC Hockey goalies.
Greening earned a spot on the second team after scoring 24 points
in league play on 11 goals and 13 assists. His 10 goals tied him
for 10th in the league, while his 13 assists ranked tied for 21st.
Greening also tied for second in the league with three game-winning
goals.
Earning a spot on the third team, Riley Nash came on strong over
the last month of the season, finishing the year ranked tied for
18th with 23 points in 18 league games. He had seven goals (tied
for 30th) and 16 assists (tied for ninth) and had 10 of those
points coming on the power play, tied for 10th in league play.
Since coming back after missing four games due to injury, Nash has
scored 13 points in seven league games with five multi-point games
and at least one point in six of the seven contests.
D'Agostino earned a spot on the all-newcomer team after being the
second-highest scoring rookie defenseman in the league, trailing
only St. Lawrence's George Hughes, who also earned a spot on the
all-rookie team. D'Agostino had a pair of goals and 11 assists for
13 points, ranking tied for seventh among all defensemen and eighth
among all rookies.
