Big Red's Fans Not Alone in Their Pregame Rituals

ITHACA — One of the most distinguishable features about
the Cornell men's hockey team is the ritualistic nature of its
fans. Every game at Lynah Rink features a crowd as involved as any
across ECAC Hockey and perhaps the country.
It starts with the newspaper "reading" during the opposing team's
introductions, weaves its way through countless chants about the
porous nature of the visiting goalie, always has a tuba serenade
and — quite often — ends with a chorus of jingling keys
in the closing seconds.
But before fans are even allowed in Lynah, Big Red players have
already started their own preparations. The team gathers about an
hour before the game, stretches and goes for a little run together.
Before that, players cater to their own preferences.
