ITHACA -- When the Cornell hockey team drops the puck in the
Sunshine State on Tuesday, it will mark its first game in 24 days.
It also opens a critical non-conference stretch where it plays five
of its next seven games against teams outside of ECAC Hockey.
Despite the importance this stretch of games has on the PairWise
Rankings, which are used to determine seeding for the NCAA
Tournament, the biggest thing Cornell coach Mike Schafer is looking
for right now is effort.
Last year Cornell was able to shed the holiday-break rust quickly,
beating St. Cloud State and winning a shootout with Colgate to
claim the Florida College Classic title. The Big Red is hoping to
successfully defend the crown.
