Gallagher Leads Cornell Scoring Surge
The following article featuring Cornell forward Blake Gallagher appeared November 26 on the Inside College Hockey (INCH) Web site.

Cornell gained a reputation throughout the decade for being one of
the toughest teams to score against in the nation. Their marquee
players and Hobey Baker candidates included goaltenders like David
LeNeveu and David McKee and defenseman Doug Murray.
This year’s Big Red are still on the stingy side
defensively, ranking eighth nationally in overall defense by
allowing just 2.12 goals against per game. The difference for this
year’s Big Red is at the other end of the rink. Cornell has
scored 33 goals in eight games, a 4.12 goals-per-game average that
is the program’s most prolific campaign since the Frozen Four
team in the 2002-03 season that tallied 3.69 goals per game.
The Big Red offense is paced by Blake Gallagher, a senior that has
eight goals and 14 points in eight games. Five of his eight goals
have come on Cornell’s prolific power play, which is clicking
at a 31 percent success rate this year. The soft-spoken centerman
credits his teammates for much of his success - and several of his
goals have come on back-door plays that he has cashed into open
nets - but there are two other important factors involved in
Gallagher’s hot start, confidence and positioning.
