ECAC Hockey teams and fans knew about Cornell sophomore forward Riley Nash before he played even a single game in the league. That’s what happens when you’re a first-round NHL draft pick the summer before you enroll for your freshman year.

Being labeled with that much potential, as Nash was when the Edmonton Oilers selected him 21st overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, brings great expectations. Eyes are on Nash every time he takes the ice.

That doesn’t mean he’s immune to criticism or an occasional challenge from the coaching staff. Cornell head coach Mike Schafer made it clear to Nash and his linemates that he wanted more production in the second game of weekend series.
