Greening Earns Leadership Award
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Senior men’s hockey captain Colin Greening
has been selected as the 2009 Richie Moran Red Key Leadership Award
winner. The award was presented at the 2009 Cornell Athletic Hall
of Fame dinner.
Greening, a seventh-round draft pick of the Ottawa Senators in the
2005 NHL Draft, was named an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Second-Team
Academic All-America following his junior season in which he
finished second on the Big Red in scoring. After serving as
co-captain last season, he will be Cornell's lone captain this
season as the Big Red tries for its 12th ECAC Hockey
championship.
The Richie Moran Award is presented to a senior student-athlete
member of the Red Key Society who has distinguished themselves
through "academics, athletics and ambassadorship."
“Colin is one of the finest student-athletes I’ve ever
coached,” head coach Mike Schafer said. “He’s a
natural leader and a person who’s very caring of other
students. He is always the first to step forward for community
service, and he’s a natural to win an award named after
Richie.”
