ITHACA -- If you watched Bemidji State in the Frozen Four on Thursday night, you couldn't help but wonder what could have been for the Cornell men's hockey team this season.

The very same Beavers that eliminated the Big Red in an NCAA regional final came back to earth in a loss to Miami (Ohio), landing the RedHawks in tonight's national championship game. It's a tantalizing thought for Cornell fans to know how close their team was to being there, too.

"It's natural to look at it and look at their record at 18-15-1 coming into the weekend and sit there and say we had a great opportunity," Cornell coach Mike Schafer said. "But overall, when you get done and walk out of there, you realize it's still the same whether it's Bemidji, Notre Dame, Wisconsin or Minnesota. The same opportunity presented itself. It's really disappointing not to get to the Frozen Four regardless of who it is."
