One of the rare disappointments of the Montreal Canadiens'
centennial game at the Bell Centre last Friday was that the man
didn't strike the pose. But we'll come back to that.
A few hours earlier, Ken Dryden had strapped on goalie pads for
the first time in more than 30 years. He had not worn the tools of
his former trade since the evening of May 21, 1979. That night, he
won his sixth and final Stanley Cup through his eight playoff runs
with the Canadiens.
Now Dryden was about to skate out in front of nearly 22,000 Bell
Centre fans, in full gear once again, and goals-against average and
save percentage were less of a concern than the fear he might make
a fool of himself.
