McLeod Returns to Brahmas
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas -- One of the Central Hockey
League's (CHL) top offensive defenseman will return to the
champions as the Texas Brahmas announced the re-signing of Kevin
McLeod for 2009-10 season.
McLeod, 25, will enter his third professional season following a
career best year with the Brahmas in 2008-09. Last season he was
tied for first in the league among defenseman in goals scored with
20. His offensively productive year ranked him fourth on the
Brahmas roster (50 points, 20 G, 30 A) in the goals, assists and
points categories.
The Calgary, ALTA native demonstrated his strong special teams
talents in the postseason as he recorded 8 points (2 G, 6 A) on the
Brahmas powerplay. McLeod was also named the number one star twice
in the playoffs (Game 3 vs RGV and Game 4 vs COL).
Brahmas Head Coach Dan Wildfong has witnessed a huge growth in
McLeod’s development and looks forward to next season with
the bruising defenseman back on his blueline.
"Kevin plays well in the Brahmas system and has a very strong role
on this team. We expect a leadership role from him and another
productive year," said Wildfong.
As a Texas Brahma, McLeod has accumulated 84 points (32 G, 52 A)
in 125 games. The third year professional is 6th all-time in
Brahmas franchise history in game winning goals with nine, 7th in
powerplay goals with 17, 9th in games played with 125 and 11th in
plus/minus with a +18 all time.
Before going pro, McLeod, 6-foot-3, 238 pounds, spent time at
Cornell University of the NCAA and played Junior Hockey in the
Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL).
