Brenden Morrow remembers Joe Nieuwendyk as a leader from the first
day he met him.
"I came in and was what, 20 years old, and my head was swimming,
and he was one of the guys who really took me under his wing and
helped me get started," Morrow said of his rookie season in
1999-2000. "He has always just been a good guy who teammates
respect."
That is one of the reasons Nieuwendyk was named general manager of
the Stars on Sunday. Owner Tom Hicks said he was not upset with the
job being done by the current administration; it was the fact that
Nieuwendyk, who was a rising star in the Toronto Maple Leafs
organization, became available.
