ECAC Hockey gets into full swing this weekend, and while teams such as Clarkson, St. Lawrence and Quinnipiac are expected to be near the top again, perennial power Cornell may be in the unusual role of sleeper.
The Big Red found themselves in an uncustomary position outside the title race last year, but coach Mike Schafer hopes to bring his team back to past glory that included championships in 2003 and 2005.
"Last year was a real transition for us," Schafer said. "Losing three guys (two defensemen) in the summer to pro hockey took a lot out of us going into the season. I was really disappointed because we never really got untracked. We had really big wins during the course of the year, but we never turned the corner as a team -- by that I mean team chemistry and having that good feeling in the locker room and going out and expecting to win all the time."
