Blogging with Ben: An Update from the Maccabiah Games
Jul 14, 2017
Rising sophomore Ben Sharf is competing with Maccabi USA Hockey at the 20th World Maccabiah Games in Jersusalem, Israel. Follow along over the next two weeks as he shares his experience of competing in the tournament and exploring Israel.
Since my last post, we have beaten Israel and Germany. A few days back we had a hard fought game with Israel as we found ourselves in penalty trouble early. We killed off about four minutes of five-on-three play in the first period, but somehow left the ice with a 2-0 lead. The referees let us play in the following two periods and the game opened up a bit. We walked away from that one with a 7-0 win.
Today, we concluded our pool play with a win over Germany to secure a spot in the Gold Medal game against Canada. We ran away early in this one and never looked back. Although we won by a big margin, it was a fun game to be apart of.
With that being said, this upcoming Saturday is the reason we all signed up to play for Team USA in the Maccabiah Games. The USA vs. Canada Gold Medal Ice Hockey game is rumored to be the main event for the entire Maccabiah Games. Fan buses have been planned and the game was pushed back to 9 p.m. local time, 2 p.m. eastern time, to ensure that people can make the game from all over Israel.
With the high anticipation of the game, it will be live streamed. Fans interested in finding out more information,CLICK HERE.
