Blue Jackets backup goaltender Mark Dekanich will miss a month — maybe less, probably more — because of a high-ankle sprain he suffered on Tuesday. This does not strike a blow to the heart of the Jackets, but it does nick them in their Achilles’ heel.

“I don’t see it as a long-term, debilitating thing,” general manager Scott Howson said. “If we can’t get through four to six weeks of this, shame on us.”

Asked if he might ply the free-agent market to add depth at goaltender while Dekanich recuperates, Howson said: “Not at this point. But we’re not ruling out the possibility.”
