Cox Concludes Rookie Campaign as Champion
Ethan Cox, a former Colgate standout, capped a memorable rookie campaign as a professional Saturday as a member of the Alaska Aces of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). The Aces defeated Kalamazoo, 5-3, to clinch the best-of-seven series, four games to one, and secure their second Kelly Cup in franchise history.
Appearing in all of the Aces’ 13 postseason contests, Cox compiled three goals and one assist helping Alaska to four-game sweeps of Idaho and Victoria, before culminating the playoff run with the five-game series triumph over Kalamazoo.
A native of Richmond, British Columbia, Cox skated in 56 regular-season contests with Alaska, amassing 32 points, including 15 goals. He finished with a plus/minus rating of plus 21, which ranked second on the team and tied for the fifth-best mark in the ECHL.
In 2010, Cox was honored for his commitment to those less fortunate as he was named the 15th recipient of the BNY Mellon Wealth Management Hockey Humanitarian Award. The award, which was instituted 1996, is given out annually to the college hockey player that embraces humanitarian efforts that help out a community, a certain philanthropy, or a cause.
Cox enjoyed a four-year career at Colgate. The two-way forward had 41 points, including 17 goals, with the Raiders. As a senior, Cox served as co-captain. He was a picture of durability throughout his collegiate career, not missing a game in his last three seasons. Overall, Cox played in 150 games, finishing seventh on the Raiders’ all-time list. In his junior and senior years, Cox won Colgate's Best Defensive Player Award.
