SAN JOSE, CALIF. -- When forward Andy McDonald returned for the third period Thursday night in Dallas, the Blues seemed to have dodged a devastating loss. McDonald was hit in the head at the end of the second period and spent the intermission undergoing tests for a possible concussion.

"He came in and saw our training staff, saw (the Stars') doctor and said he was ready to play the third period," Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said.

McDonald felt fine afterward, but concussion symptoms can take time to set in. On Friday morning, he "just wasn't feeling right," according to Armstrong, and so the club sent him back to St. Louis for further testing. There has been no confirmation that McDonald suffered a concussion, but for a player who has had at least two in his NHL career, including one last November, the prognosis doesn't figure to be positive news.
