OTTAWA — Jesse Winchester felt bad that he took the penalty that ultimately cost his team Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
But he felt even worse about the action that led to the penalty. Which is why he immediately went to make sure that Clarke MacArthur was OK after getting accidentally hit by Winchester’s stick.
Winchester was off balance when he gave MacArthur a good whack with his stick early in the third period of Saturday’s game. With Jason Spezza having just tied the game 2-2 in the opening minutes of the period, Winchester’s timing was unfortunate, and the Leafs made the Senators pay. Tyler Bozak scored what would turn out to be the winning goal.
