Dekanich Faces Big Challenge

Goaltender Mark Dekanich got married yesterday on the campus of Colgate University in Hamilton. N.Y. He and his wife, Elizabeth, with much to celebrate this weekend, are flying to the Bahamas on Monday.

In the eyes of skeptical Blue Jackets fans, however, the honeymoon period begins in September when the 25-year-old arrives as the backup to Steve Mason.

Dekanich has enjoyed three strong minor-league seasons in the Nashville Predators organization, learning from one of the game's most respected goalie coaches, Mitch Korn. But some observers were stunned that the Jackets would give a one-year, one-way deal to a player with 50 minutes of NHL experience - especially given Mason's struggles the past two seasons.
