Colgate Gives to Local Charities
HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate men’s hockey program
handed out checks of $1,000 each to the Hamilton Food Cupboard and
Interfaith Holiday Council as a result of two fundraisers to help
the two local charities.
On November 21, 2009, senior Ethan Cox (Richmond, B.C.), a
finalist for the 2010 BNY Mellon Hockey Humanitarian Award,
spearheaded his annual canned food and toy drive to help local
families enjoy the holiday season a bit more. The one-night
drive turned into a major success on all fronts. Not only did
the Raiders rally to defeat Princeton in overtime that evening on a
goal by Francois Brisebois (Montreal, Que.), but also the drive
itself posted the best results of any similar drives in previous
seasons. Fans and staff, as well as Price Chopper helped
replenish the Hamilton Food Cupboard stock with 1,000 pounds of
canned food items. The drive also raised 150 toys, which were
handed over to the Interfaith Holiday Council. In addition to
the food and toys, over $650 in cash was also raised.
That same evening, Colgate unveiled its third jersey, which were
put up for sale to the general public. Both charities
received a portion of those proceeds raised in the jersey sale as
well.
