Colgate Toy & Canned Food Drives Successful Again
HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate men's
hockey team and junior Kevin McNamara hosted
its annual canned food and toy drives in the last month to help
bring holiday cheer to families in the immediate Hamilton area.
The food drive, which was held the weekend before Thanksgiving
when Colgate took on Brown and Yale. The toy drive took place last
Saturday evening prior to the game against Niagara and both drives
were deemed a success.
"Ethan Cox left some huge shoes to fill in regards to his
generosity and community service, but it has been great getting
more of the team involved to help fill the void,” said
McNamara. “The entire team was proud and very thankful to
hear about the response we received for the food and toy drives
from the Hamilton and Colgate community."
The canned food drive brought in 300 pounds of items, while the
community came to the game on Saturday night with 75 toys and $60
in cash. The food went to the Hamilton Food Cupboard, while the
Interfaith Holiday Council was given the toys to disperse within
the community.
The team began the food drive back in 2007 after starting the toy
drive the year before in 2006. The drives were both spearheaded by
former player and BNY Mellon Hockey Humanitarian Award winner Ethan
Cox '09 the past two seasons.
