Mormina Signs Agreement with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have
signed former Colgate defenseman Joey Mormina to a professional
tryout contract, it was announced Monday.
Mormina, 28, returns to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after spending last
season with the Adirondack Phantoms (AHL). In 77 games,
Mormina posted an AHL-career-high 23 points (5G, 18A). He
also registered 102 penalty minutes.
The 6-6, 220-lb. native of Montreal posted a plus-37 rating as a
member of the 2008-09 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defense
corps. He also recorded 11 points (2G, 9A) and 71 penalty
minutes in 70 games.
A sixth-round selection (193rd overall) of the Philadelphia Flyers
in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Mormina broke into the professional
ranks in 2005-06 with the Manchester Monarchs, after a four-year
college career with Colgate University (ECAC).
