Mormina Inks AHL Deal
WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have
signed former Colgate defenseman Joey Mormina to an American Hockey
League contract, it was announced on Thursday.
Mormina, 28, returned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a professional
tryout in October, posting one assist and 11 penalty minutes in 12
games. He also accumulated a plus-7 rating. Mormina
spent last season with the Adirondack Phantoms (AHL), appearing in
77 games and posting an AHL-career-high 23 points (5G, 18A).
He also registered 102 penalty minutes.
The 6-6, 220-lb. native of Montreal posted a plus-37 rating as a
member of the 2008-09 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defense
corps. He also recorded 11 points (2G, 9A) and 71 penalty
minutes in 70 games.
A sixth-round selection (193rd overall) of the Philadelphia Flyers
in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Mormina broke into the professional
ranks in 2005-06 with the Manchester Monarchs, after a four-year
college career with Colgate University (ECAC).
