Colgate to Face Army in Cape Cod Classic

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Colgate University men's hockey team will open the 2010-11 season on Saturday, October 9 against Army in the inaugural Cape Cod Classic in Hyannis, Mass. The Raiders will serve as the home team at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center.

"We are excited to partner with the people on the Cape for this event and to be part of the first ever Cape Cod Classic,” stated Colgate head coach Don Vaughan. “With this game we will be promoting exciting Division I college hockey in an area that has very strong youth and high school hockey programs.”

The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will mark the 58th meeting between Colgate and Army. Colgate holds a 36-16-5 record in the series versus the Black Knights and is 15-1-3 in the last 19 meetings, including a 4-4 tie last season. The first ever meeting happened in West Point back in 1916-1917. Colgate traveled to Army 22 consecutive times before the Cadets made the trip to Hamilton for the first time in 1962. The Raiders are 12-4 all-time in one-goal games and are 2-0-5 all-time in overtime contests.

“With Army as our opponent and playing this game in the home town of legendary Army and Olympic hockey coach Jack Riley is an added bonus,” said Vaughan. “It will be a great event for our student athletes, alumni and all the fans on Cape Cod."

The Colgate Athletic Ticket Office has announced that tickets for the Cape Cod Classic are on sale to the public. Tickets will be $12 for adults and $8 for children. All seating to this game will be general admission.
