Cox Nominated for Hockey Humanitarian
MINNEAPOLIS -- Colgate’s Ethan Cox (Richmond, B.C.) is
among 21 nominees for the BNY Mellon Hockey Humanitarian Award, it
was announced.
The junior, one of five repeat nominees, was a national finalist
for the 2008 award. The honor is presented to college
hockey’s finest citizen. Both men’s and women’s
student-athletes, regardless of Division, will be considered for
the award. Last year’s recipient was Will Bruce of Williams
College. Cox is the only male student-athlete representing ECAC
Hockey.
Since coming to Colgate, Cox has been a vital part of the Hamilton
community when it comes to raising money for various charities,
especially around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with his
canned food and toy drives. Cox has raised over $12,000 in cash and
donated items and has helped other programs raise over $25,000 for
the American Cancer Society alone.
This year’s nominees include: Ryan Adler (Hobart), Andrew
Brolsma (Castleton State), Joe Charlebois (New Hampshire), Cody
Chupp (Ferris State), Greg Copeland (Marian University), Ethan Cox
(Colgate), Rachael Drazan (University of Minnesota), Missy Elumba
(Northeastern), Eric Greene (SUNY Plattsburgh), Caitlin Hogan (St.
Cloud State), Crysti Howser (Yale), Trevor Hyatt
(Alaska-Fairbanks), Jerad Kaufmann (Nebraska-Omaha), Jacques
Lamoureaux (Air Force), Kyle Laughlin (Providence), Jeff Lerg
(Michigan State), Patrick McCarthy (Babson), Brian Moore (Bowling
Green), Todd Sheridan (Brockport), Brandon Vossberg (University of
Denver), and Dagney Willey (University of Minnesota).
By mid February, finalists will be announced. The award’s
14th recipient will be named in a ceremony on Friday, April 10, at
the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. in conjunction with the 2009
Frozen Four.
