NORTH CHARLESTON, SC -- The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that the team will be inducting Brad Dexter, former Colgate standout and current Colgate assistant coach, as the newest member of the Stingrays Hall of Fame this evening, after the former defenseman beat out four other former Rays - Adam Calder, Marty Clapton, Jody Lehman and Jeff Romfo - through a mail-in ballot campaign in conjunction with the Post and Courier.

Dexter, 35, began his professional career during the 1996-97 season with Raleigh Icecaps before joining the Stingrays for the final sixteen games of the season and the run to the team's first Kelly Cup Championship.  He played four years of college hockey at Colgate University , where he currently is an assistant coach, before beginning his eight seasons as a professional hockey player. 

The Kingston, Ontario native spent all or parts of five seasons with South Carolina from 1996-2001, compiling 44 goals and 190 assists for 233 points in 291 regular season games to become the highest point-producing defenseman in team history.  In 54 career postseason contests for South Carolina, the blueliner added 53 points (10g, 43a), including 26 points during the 1997 Kelly Cup Playoffs.  Dexter, along with current head coach Jared Bednar, are the only defensemen to win Kelly Cup Championships with the Stingrays in 1997 and 2001.

Dexter ranks third in Stingrays history with 190 assists while his 234 points places him fifth.  Dexter's 59 assists led all ECHL blueliners during the 1999-00 season, and his 66 points ranked fourth.  He took home back-to-back 2^nd Team All-Star honors in the 1998-99 and 1999-00 campaigns, and was an ECHL All-Star for South Carolina in 1999 and 2000.

Dexter also played professionally for the Raleigh Icecaps (ECHL), Syracuse Crunch (AHL), Kansas City Blades (IHL), Pensacola Ice Pilots (ECHL), Herning Blue Fox (DEL), and the Victoria Salmon Kings (ECHL), where he finished his playing career in 2004-05 and was voted a starter in the ECHL All-Star Game.
