Raiders' Captains Announced
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Rising senior defenseman Nick St. Pierre (St.
Etienne, Que.) will serve as captain of the 2008-09 Colgate
University men's hockey team, head coach Don Vaughan
announced on Tuesday, June 17. St. Pierre's
classmates, Mark Anderson (Hastings, Neb.) and Tom Riley
(Ottawa, Ont.), will serve as assistant captains.
St. Pierre has worn an "A" on his jersey as an assistant captain
for the better part of the last two seasons. One of the top
defensemen in ECAC Hockey, St. Pierre was hampered by injury as a
junior, but played in every game of his first two seasons as a
Raider. The 2006 ECAC Hockey all-rookie team selection has 45
career points, including 10 goals, and is among Colgate's leaders
with 105 blocked shots over the last two years. St. Pierre received
Colgate's Dan Coley "Barrell" Award as the team's top defensemen in
2006 and 2007, and made his first appearance on the ECAC Hockey
all-academic team in 2008.
Anderson recently became just the second Academic All-American in
Colgate hockey history when he was named to the men's at-large
third team. One of three finalists for the 2007-08 ECAC Hockey
Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, Anderson is a two-time member of
the ECAC Hockey all-academic team. On the ice, he has been a steady
contributer from the blue line throughout his career, and finished
second among Colgate defensemen with 14 points as a junior.
Anderson's +14 rating during the 2007-08 campaign ranked second
overall on the team, and he boasts 27 career points in 92
games.
Riley emerged as a consistent offensive threat for the Raiders as a
junior, and will be expected to lead the team's offense as a
senior. He earned a spot in the lineup 41 straight times during the
2007-08 season, missing just the last game of the year due to
injury. Riley ranked fourth on the team with 26 points, including
17 assists, and netted two game-winning goals. One of Colgate's top
centers, Riley won 54.5 percent of his faceoffs (254-of-466) last
season.
The Raiders finished the 2007-08 campaign in Albany as they made
their fourth appearance in the ECAC Hockey Championship in the
last five years. Colgate closed out the year with an 18-18-6
overall record and 8-9-5 mark in league play.
