HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Colgate men's hockey team will be sending more money to the American Cancer Society through ECAC Hockey Coaches vs. Cancer thanks to a pledge drive coordinated by sophomore Ethan Cox (Richmond, B.C.), called "Facing Off Against Cancer."

Cox, a finalist for the 2008 Hockey Humanitarian Award, has received commitments from several local businesses who will donate a dollar for every faceoff the Raiders win during this weekend's games against Rensselaer and Union. Fans can participate in the event by filling out the pledge form, available in the lobby of Reid Athletic Center or online at http://www.gocolgateraiders.com/, and returning it to the Colgate hockey office.

Cox also secured donations from other businesses for raffle prizes to be given away this weekend. Fans can support the cause and enter to win one of the donated prizes by purchasing raffle tickets for a dollar each at the table in the Reid lobby.

The Raiders are winning an average of 36 faceoffs per game this season, including 38 faceoffs per home game. Senior Tyler Burton (Langley, B.C.) leads the squad with 366 faceoff wins and a .594 faceoff winning percentage. Cox, who has been centering Colgate's third line for the last four games, has 38 faceoff wins on the year.

Colgate takes on Rensselaer on Friday, and Union on Saturday. Both games begin at 7:00 p.m., at Starr Rink. The Raiders will be participating in "Pink at the Rink", a fundraising campaign through ECAC Hockey and the American Cancer Society, by wearing special pink jerseys during warmups prior to both games. The jerseys are being auctioned off to raise money for the American Cancer Society online at http://www.ecachockeycoachesvscancer.com/. Fans who wear pink or make a donation to the American Cancer Society will receive free admission to the games. Friday's contest against the Engineers will be televised live on Time Warner Sports in Upstate New York, as well as on SportsNet New York, which is carried by DirecTV and select cable providers.
