Colgate Makes Donation to Food Cupboard
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Sophomore Ethan Cox
(Richmond, B.C.) of the Colgate men's hockey team delivered 350
pounds of non-perishable food items and more than $70 in cash
donations to the Hamilton Food Cupboard on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
The Raiders collected the food and cash at their home games against
Connecticut last weekend.
"It's absolutely wonderful that the hockey team did this for us,"
said Mary Ellen Shen, the director of the Hamilton Food Cupboard.
"It makes a big difference to our families. We're up to 115
families a month, with an average of five or six people in a
family, so this will go quite a ways to help feed them."
"We are very pleased to be able to team up with the Hamilton Food
Cupboard," Cox said. "Their efforts in helping out families who
live in the Hamilton area are wonderful. It is our pleasure as a
hockey team to be able to help their cause."
The Raiders will host a toy drive at their games against Robert
Morris this weekend, Sat.-Sun., Dec. 1-2. For every new or
gently-used toy a fan donates, he or she will receive a raffle
ticket and be entered into a drawing to win team-signed
memorabilia. On Saturday, the Raiders will give away a jersey;
Sunday's prize will be a team-autographed stick. Fans can also
purchase raffle tickets for $1 each. All donations will go to the
Interfaith Council Holiday Project, who will wrap and distribute
toys to needy families in Madison County.
Cox, a candidate for the 2008 Hockey Humanitarian Award, has
spearheaded the Colgate hockey team's charitable efforts since he
arrived on campus last season. Under his leadership, the Raiders
have raised more than $10,000 in cash and donated items to benefit
both local and national charities, including the National MS
Society and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
