Borowiecki Debuts in NHL with Ottawa
SAN JOSE, CA -- Former Clarkson standout Mark Borowiecki made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut Thursday as a member of the Ottawa Senators in the team's 4-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks.
Wearing jersey number 74, Borowiecki saw 13 minutes, one second of ice time over 18 shifts. He drew the first Sharks penalty, in the first period, and also recorded two hits.
"I thought he played real good," Ottawa coach Paul MacLean said. "Played with good patience, was physical when he had to be, but played within himself and didn't' try to do things that he couldn't do."
Borowiecki was recalled by Ottawa Tuesday from Binghamton of the American Hockey League (AHL).
An Ottawa native, Borowiecki has scored three goals and 12 assists while adding 76 penalty minutes in 42 games for Binghamton during his first full professional season. Following three years with Clarkson, Borowiecki joined Binghamton for nine regular-season games last season. He also played in 21 playoff games during the B-Sens run to the 2011 Calder Cup championship.
Borowiecki, the first Ottawa native ever drafted by the Senators, was selected with Ottawa’s fifth-round pick (139th overall) in the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
