CASEY JONES
Clarkson
Head Coach | Cornell ’90 | Temsicaming,
Quebec
Background: Jones was hired into his first Division I head coaching position earlier this summer at Clarkson. He had served as an assistant coach at Clarkson under Mark Morris from 1993-95 so he has some familiarity with Clarkson’s program and tradition. His longest assistant coaching job was at Ohio State, where he was for 13 years. He spent the last three years at his alma mater, Cornell, as associate head coach.
His personal enthusiasm and energy caught the eye of Clarkson athletic director Steve Yianoukos in the interview process and those attributes made him one of the nation’s most highly-regarded recruiters during his time as an assistant coach.
State of the Program: Other than Yale and Cornell, the ECAC Hockey program that has made consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances most recently is Clarkson, and they are one of those are the only three conference teams that have won an NCAA Tournament game in the last four events. They were in the NCAAs in both 2007 and 2008, but three straight losing seasons have made it seem like those successes took place a long time ago.
