When Todd Marchant showed up in Edmonton in 1994 in the trade for Craig MacTavish, nobody envisioned he would end up spending nearly a decade in an Oilers uniform.

Yet, Marchant would go on to play more games than MacTavish, the former Oilers captain. The 37-yearold Buffalo native played 1,195 NHL games over 17 seasons before deciding to retire Wednesday to take a job as the Anaheim Ducks' director of player development.

Drafted 164th overall (seventh round) by the New York Rangers in the 1993 entry draft, Marchant scored 186 goals and had 312 assists with the Rangers, Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets and the Ducks.
