Paquet to Defend in Denmark

Hvidovre (Denmark) announced Tuesday the signing of former Clarkson standout Phil Paquet for the 2011-12 season.

Paquet recently completed his second professional campaign. He spent the past two seasons in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) with the Florida Everblades and Bakserfield Condors.

“Phil is a big but very mobile defenseman. He has good hands and good shot. He is solid defensively, but is also very good offensively. Phil is thus intended to play a central role in our power play. I am extremely pleased that we managed to get this contract in place when he had offers from several other leagues in Europe,” said head coach Morten Hagen.

Paquet split time in 2010-11 between Florida and Bakersfield, appearing in a total of 70 games. In 49 games with Florida, Paquet compiled two goals and 18 assists for 20 points. He registered six points, including one goal, in 21 games with Bakersfield.

In his first season as a professional, Paquet recorded 15 points, including two goals, in 53 games with the Everblades. He also finished third on the club with a +10 rating.

The Quebec City native played four seasons at Clarkson, where he served as a team captain his senior season. In 127 collegiate contests, Paquet scored seven goals and contributed 23 assists.

Paquet was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 7th round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
