Rufenach Starting Road to Pros

When Walleye defenseman Bryan Rufenach got a call in 2007 informing him that he’d been drafted by the Detroit Red Wings he didn’t buy it.

Rufenach, a 22-year-old in his first season with Toledo, simply didn’t believe the person on the other end of the line was Red Wings general manager Ken Holland.

“When I got the call, I thought it was a joke,” Rufenach said. “I thought it was my brother or one of my friends. But when he said it was the GM from the Red Wings, I started listening to see if I could tell the voice.”
