Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier didn’t have to work hard to sell Erik Cole on the idea of playing in Montreal.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing in Montreal,” said Cole, who signed a four-year, $18-million contract on the opening day of the free-agent market Friday. “As soon as you set foot in the city, you can feel the excitement.”
That excitement has been reflected in his numbers over the years. Cole, who grew up as a Canadiens’ fans in upstate Oswego, N.Y., has enjoyed a fair measure of success against Montreal with 25 points, including 14 goals, in 28 games.
